The Network

The European Network of Ethnobiology joins researchers and students based or working in European countries, within and beyond academia.
Initiated in June 2023, the goal of this network is to strengthen the bonds between ethnobiologists.

Various online meetings have been organized to discuss commonalities and differences between researchers, future aspirations, and priorities to be implemented together.

While the creation of a European society is still under discussion, various actions are being implemented: the creation of a mailing list, the organization of bimonthly online seminars starting in September 2024, the development of a website, and the pooling of the various courses offered in ethnobiology and ethnoecology across Europe.

In addition to allowing us to get to know each other better, these spaces allow us to co-create various initiatives in the hope of making our discipline more visible, both in academic and political circles.

Coordination team:
This network has emerged from the collective efforts of European ethnobiologists who have connected since 2023. Engagement in its activities is voluntary, with responsibilities shared and evolving as members choose to participate, shift roles, or step back. Current coordination efforts include Sandrine Gallois, Álvaro Fernández-Llamazares, and Andrea Pieroni. The website exists thanks to the shared work of Vincent Porcher, Julia G. de Aledo, Jimena Mateo-Martín, and Giulia Mattalia. The education programme is currently supported by Renata Sõukand. The 2024–2025 webinar series has been co-developed and facilitated by Lucie Benoit, Isabel Díaz-Reviriego, Nicolas Césard, and Sandrine Gallois.
